On Wednesday January 28th, join one of the most dynamic young voices in climate justice today, Scarlett Westbrook, to explore the links between climate education, youth-led action, political responsibility and the policy shifts needed to respond to an increasingly unstable climate.
She will be in conversation with Stewart Motha, Professor of Law, Birkbeck, University of London.
About the speaker: Scarlett Westbrook is a 21-year-old leading climate justice activist and journalist, and the youngest person in the world to attain an A level in Government and Politics, which she self-taught at age 13. Scarlett is most known for her work on climate education. As a coordinator and spokesperson for the UK Student Climate Network, Scarlett organised student climate strikes in 2019 when 7.6 million global students missed Friday classes and demanded change. She is a co-founder of Teach the Future, a youth-led campaign that aims to transform education around the climate emergency and ecological crisis. Through her work with Teach the Future, Scarlett co-authored the English Climate Emergency Education Act alongside Labour MP Nadia Whittome, a bill focused on transforming climate education, and is widely regarded as the youngest policy writer in the world.
