A thrilling meeting of global musical traditions and contemporary jazz.

For more than 30 years, acclaimed alto saxophonist, composer and improviser Martin Speake has explored non-Western rhythmic and melodic approaches inspired by the music of many cultures, creating a distinctive musical voice that is both adventurous and deeply engaging.

His latest project, Charukesi, named after an Indian raga, brings these influences together at Lauderdale House. Drawing on Indian, Arabic, Turkish, African and jazz traditions, the group creates music rich in character, energy and imagination.

Expect direct, groove-based music with compelling and memorable melodies, rooted in a dynamic tuba and drums rhythm section, with impassioned soloing and interaction from Martin Speake on alto sax, Alyson Cawley on tenor sax and Mike Outram on guitar.
