London Quilters proudly presents the highly anticipated Quilts at the Library 2023 exhibition. Attendees are invited to join London Quilters at Swiss Cottage Library from 28th June to 26th July for an extraordinary showcase of artistry and creativity.

This exceptional exhibition features over 60 quilts, each a testament to the skill and vision of London Quilters. From contemporary to modern, traditional to art quilts, visitors will be captivated by the diverse range of styles on display. Explore the stunning collection, which includes magnificent bed quilts, captivating wall hangings, and a delightful selection of mini quilts inspired by beloved books.

The grand opening on 28th June will be graced by the presence of a special guest, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a remarkable individual known for her resilience and passion for crafts. London Quilters is honored to have her join the event at 6.30pm, adding a touch of inspiration to the celebration of creativity.

Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, London Quilters remained steadfast in their dedication to the craft. This exhibition serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment and showcases the exceptional works born out of resilience and adaptability.

Immerse yourself in the world of quilting as you discover the intricate details, vibrant colors, and rich textures that define each quilt. From meticulously crafted designs to free-flowing improvisations, London Quilters' creations reflect a love for the art form. Drawing inspiration from poetry, music, cherished memories, and the urgent need to protect our environment, these quilts are an embodiment of passion and creativity.

Throughout the exhibition, drop-in workshops will be held every Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Visitors can engage with the art of quilting, learn new techniques, and be inspired by the talented members of London Quilters.

With a longstanding relationship spanning nearly two decades, London Quilters pays homage to Swiss Cottage Library by unveiling a Quilt Banner, which will greet visitors and showcase a selection of their exceptional works. 

London Quilters also endeavors to make a positive impact on the community. During the exhibition, funds will be raised in support of two incredible charities: Likewise and Chalk Farm Foodbank. As a part of this initiative, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for the magnificent quilt, 'Taken as Red,' designed and created by London Quilters. All proceeds from the raffle will go towards these worthy causes.

 

The following workhops will be taking place at Swiss Cottage Gallery:


11 - 3pm 1 July - Cathedral windows

Learn how to make a Cathedral window, a  technique formed from groups of prepared squares to form a beautiful 'window' for a contrasting piece of fabric. It can be made into a hanging decoration or a pin cushion.


11 - 3pm  8 July -  Butterfly brooches


Butterfly Brooches.

Make a beautiful butterfly brooch in a colour of your choice


11 - 3pm  15 July - Animals 

Learn how to applique a beautiful felt animal and then sew around it to echo the shape.


11 - 3pm  22 July- Kantha 

Kantha is originally from India but now is everywhere. Simply stitch several layers of fabric to bring out the beauty of  fabric and stitch.

 


Sale of items
There will be a wide selection of small quilted, decorative and useful sewn items for sale also fat quarters, fabric pieces and scrap bags. Pick up a bargain from the wide range of second-hand books and magazines on quilting, embroidery and textile techniques.
