DAYTIMERS Mehfil: An Evening of South Asian Poetry

Daytimers Collective South Asian Heritage Month 2023 South Asian poetry

Camden Council's South Asian Heritage Month programme proudly presents the highly acclaimed DAYTIMERS collective. Following their previous, sensational Mehfil event during the Bloomsbury Festival, this evening promises to be an exhilarating showcase of spoken word, poetry, and music.

Through Mehfil, DAYTIMERS have taken their strides into the world of poetry and spoken word, hosting line-ups filled with some of the most exciting South Asian poets operating in the scene right now, alongside showcasing live classical musicians.

This series of Mehfil events will be running alongside DAYTIMERS' usual club-based/live-music events, drawing on inspiration from historic Mehfil celebrations traditionally presented in the homes or palaces of royalty or nobility. These evenings typically combined elements of poetry, Qawwali, Sufi, Hindustani classical music, and much more, performed for audiences in an intimate setting.

This event will feature performances from the likes of Zahra Ahmad, Naila Ali & more poets TBA. As well as live music from London-based drummer, percussionist, composer, and bandleader, Sarathy Korwar featuring a very special guest. Followed by a DJ set from DAYTIMERS resident Vindya.
