The peaceful manor of Stepanovitch Chubukov and his daughter Natalie is disrupted by the arrival of Lomov, a young man who has come to propose marriage to young Natalie. What starts as a happy celebration of future nuptials breaks down into argument as old feuds between the feudal families come to light. Meanwhile, across the country the widow Elena Popova refuses to come out of her room, only moved by the arrival of a debt collector, Grigory Smirnov, who refuses to leave the house until her deceased husband’s debts are paid.

Two of Chekhov's finest, sharpest and most poignant comedies back to back, with Broken Word Productions’ and the SE Theatre Company’s first collaboration A Tale of Two Chekhov’s. Become embroiled with these family disputes that border on the bizarre, and political and social commentary that has a bite to this day!
