Speed Dancing - The Hustle Edition at Academy Mews Dance Studios
Tired of Tinder and all the superficial online dating apps, want to make a real connection with someone?
This May we’re bringing you back to the disco era of 1970’s New York City!
What is Hustle?
Hustle (also called Latin Hustle, New York Hustle and Spanish Hustle) is the mambo/salsa inspired partner dance that originated in the 1970’s in the Puerto Rican community in NYC. Currently it is done as a 3-count step (& 1, 2, 3) to 4/4 music (usually disco or house, but can also be done to a slower tempo, like R’n’B and neo-soul). Over the time it has had influences from many other dances including swing, tango, and waltz, and the current younger generation are bringing influences from various other partner dances and street dance (the dance was largely popularised amongst the younger generation by Jeff Selby starting 2010).
