Speculative Geologies is a collaborative project by Charlie Cousins and Fionn Duffy. They explore the performative process of research in response to a speculative meteor impact site that spans the North West Coast of Scotland. Speculative Geologies was exhibited in print at Swiss Cottage Gallery and as a film on Love Camden.
Searching for marks of a suspected meteor strike, they explore the possibilities of constructing the story of the meteorite through tracing potential scars in the surrounding geology and landscape.
The artists aim to find a common space, juxtaposing a mythic landscape of petrified giants with the scientific data which is said to prove a story far greater than we could have imagined. An alien body falling to earth at the beginning of time, shaping the landscape and the ways in which we engage with it now.
Alongside the work for Swiss Cottage, the artists have selected a number of resources from across Camden Libraries. With research playing a vital role in their process of discovery, the artists hope to share that process with the Swiss Cottage visitors. Some items have directly informed the project to date, while others have been discovered since as the project continues to develop.
