Chance to share your romantic stories in an international exhibition (Tristan Bates Theatre)
Until September 4th 2011
Do you own an object that won’t let you forget? Do you need to make room in your heart (and flat) for a new romance? The Museum of Broken Relationships, which will be hosted in Seven Dials, Covent Garden is seeking donations from the residents in the Covent Garden area. This is a chance to become part of ‘global emotional history’ and have your personal artefact included in an award-winning exhibition.
The Tristan Bates Theatre and Museum of Broken Relationships will present an exhibition from the permanent collection of the Museum of Broken Relationships (MBR) which won the Kenneth Hudson Award for the most daring, innovative European museum project 2011. The exhibition will feature detritus from failed relationships – from the common, shared relics of love (a wedding dress, an “I Love You” teddy bear) to the unique and bizarre (a crumbling garden gnome, a cast from a broken leg) – donated to the museum by people from around the world. Objects from the permanent collection will be on view alongside artefacts and ephemera offered by those living and working in the Covent Garden area looking to exhibit their own love legacy. The exhibition will be housed across two sites in Seven Dials including the Tristan Bates Theatre from August 15th- September 4th 2011.
To donate your object, please complete the following steps:
1. Visit www.brokenships.com
2. Click on “SEND YOUR EXHIBIT”
3. Submit your completed Intent to Donate Form online
4. Print out your Donate Form (it will be emailed to you) and bring it with your object in person to the Tristan Bates Theatre.
The Tristan Bates Theatre in Seven Dials will be accepting donations between May 30th- July 4th, from 10 am – 9pm, Monday to Saturdays.
All objects donated in London will be on display for the duration of the exhibition. All objects are exhibited anonymously and are non-returnable.
As well as hosting the museum, The Tristan Bates Theatre has commissioned artists, theatre makers and performers to create work in response to the locally collected artefacts. There will be a programme of performances and additional engagement with the Museum. The commissioned artists include Ben Okri (writer), ESKA (singer/songwriter), Dean Atta (poet), Tim Bamber (composer), The Guerilla Dance Project, Coney (agency of adventure) and Firehouse Creative Productions (theatre).
