Our choice of Camden’s coffee and cake hot-spots

This week is UK coffee week. As the rain keeps falling, we’ve sourced some of the borough’s best places where a ‘cup of Joe’ will keep you awake and kicking despite the gloomy weather outside.

Ginger & White
It’s quite simple really, the owners of this place state their passion from the outset: they love coffee and adore food. After seeing a gap in the market for good coffee in North West London the three owners fell in love with Perrin’s Lane and the rest is history. They say that Ginger & White is just the type of place they wish they grew up around the corner from.

Camden Coffee House
Sunni, the owner, is undeniably a coffee buff. Before opening in 2009, he travelled and worked abroad for three years finding his passion for coffee and teas, through their taste, how it was served and how it brought local communities closer. Returning to London and disappointed at drinking coffee from high street chains inspired Sunni to start his own coffee house in his birth place – Camden Town. He’s since branched out to Balham and Croydon and hasn’t looked back.

Peyton and Byrne
Yes, it’s a chain but it is one very good chain. A coffee shop located both inside the British Library and St Pancras station, as well as two stalls outside the library means this area of the borough is well covered for coffee lovers. Peyton and Byrne’s cakes and pastries have been described as a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds, which anyone who has passed the St Pancras shop window will most likely attest to.

Camden Arts Centre Café
With each day bringing a fresh selection of home-style food, crafted cakes, and authentic Italian coffee, the Camden Arts Centre Café is the perfect marriage for coffee and culture lovers. Described as serving an intense cup of coffee, why not enjoy the café’s picturesque outdoor seating while it’s still warm enough to.

Lanka
This Primrose Hill cafe is something very different. Lanka is run by gourmet chef Masayuki Hara, a specialist in French and modern British cuisine, who has gained quite a reputation for his excellent homemade cakes and pastries which boast delicate flavours and traditions from Japan. And those addicted to coffee will want to know that this is one of the few places in London where you can get a cup of Monmouth coffee. Not for the faint-hearted.
