Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation

By Debbie Clark, CEO & Founder

We are Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation and our mission is to support and inspire young people in Camden by giving them a gateway to the arts via a multitude of free courses we offer from our POP-UP gallery, now open in Queens Crescent NW5.

Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation

WORKS currently on Exhibit at Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation POP_UP gallery in Queens Crescent.

We opened with a little party on our first weekend on the 14th and 15th of April and hosted taster courses in the arts throughout our first week which were hugely successful. We are incredibly lucky to have had our Patron Helen McCrory OBE come along and draw and paint with the children in attendance on the first opening week and it was wonderful to witness the children finding so much joy and confidence, in their art work.

The children's work is currently hosted in an exhibition at our gallery and we are also working alongside schools in the borough with our after-school classes and weekend workshops. We have had a tremendous response and now have a schedule of courses available to children from age 5 to 16 whom are eligible for our FREE courses in art, sculpture, graffiti set design, T-shirt design and screen printing.

Additionally, we have several super courses in photography too, on offer. Thanks to our kind sponsors OLYMPUS we are able to teach an after school photography workshop every Thursday at 4pm to 6pm as well as 2 weekend workshops where we will be using the brand new OLYMPUS EPL-8. OLYMPUS have kindly gifted us 12 cameras which enables 12 students a week the chance to learn photography and up-skill. Our inspiring weekend workshops cover street photography and urban architecture and offer children a chance to create and document the area. Don't miss this weekend's course!

The courses we host attract the most talented of esteemed photographers. Last weekend saw the eminent Peter Blundell, arts tutor from The Portrait Gallery come along and teach 8 children the art of ‘drawing into painting’ and many gifted young people were discovered in the process!

We have some photos here of some of the works already created by our talented young people in Camden.

It has been an incredible journey so far and despite only being open since April 12th. We have had a weekend party, lots of interest from the local community and young people coming by and popping in to see our art exhibition currently displaying works by those aged 7-18.

Local schools: Kentish Town Primary and Holy Trinity & St Silas have also shown great interest and admire the work we are doing and the community of young creatives we are committed to building.

Here at Sir Hubert von Herkomer Art Foundation Gallery in Queens Crescent, NW5, we are also offering arts classes and gallery tours to the primary school children in the area.  This is a fun excursion for young children so please let us know if your school would be interested.

Finally, we are incredibly excited to announce that the Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation is being supported by local companies and people in the music industry including Dee Burrell/ Elias Bally of GFUK MEDIA MANAGEMENT, JACOB LANDAU of KUBIC MUSIC and Chris Townsend and Niall Williams of MAP STUDIOS and APFM PRODUCTIONS to film and produce music videos. We are offering a Masterclass in music industry level studio production filming, choreography, song writing and performance  so 15 children can discover the skills and tools they need to create a music track and music video.
