Join artist Leigh Glover for an afternoon of drawing, painting and cloud spotting this Saturday at the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs on Leather Lane.

The Coffee Collective told us a bit more about the afternoon and Leigh's 'From the Air' exhibition which will be on display at the venue until 13 August:

"While painting his recent exhibition series ‘From the Air’, artist Leigh Glover discovered a lot about how to paint the sky. Now, with his exhibition underway at the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs, Leigh has  some tips and tricks to share on how to capture the dramatic cloudscapes British skies are so renowned for.

"Inspired by past masters such as Constable and JMW Turner, Leigh has produced a refreshing series of paintings that bring to earth the dramatic scenery we so often forget is just above us in the air. For the most part of our days, we Londoners find ourselves absorbed in our immediate surroundings – moving in and around our built environment, navigating the chaos of city living. Constable’s cloud studies can seem as foreign as a picture postcard from the other side of the world. Here is an opportunity not only to get creative and learn some new skills but also to take time out to stop, and look.

"Equipped with a watercolour set, the ultimate outdoor painting tool, and a hot cup of coffee, you will consider the place of clouds in paintings, bringing back works that will no doubt rival even the Masters’. Starting at 2pm at the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs on Leather Lane, Leigh will take you around the surrounding area to find the perfect local vantage points. After an hour or so in the field you will return around 4pm to collectively admire one another’s work. To register, email art@coffeesmiths.co.uk. The class costs £5 and includes one free coffee. You will need to bring your own watercolour paints and paper as well as materials for sketching such as charcoal, putty rubber and sketch paper.
